Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen

Elizabeth was know as the Virgin Queen, due to that she was had no husband nor children, and her marriage was with England. This was, in a personal opinion, maybe something that was really hard for the Queen due to that maybe at some point she wanted to be a normal woman, and have a husband and children, as we saw on the movie.

The most significant aspect of Elizabeth's Reign was the fact that she developed a sense of freedom of speech and culture among people in England. On those times when the catholic church was the puppeteer behind most of the European Kingdoms, she stood in front and rebel against the church's power and defended the rights of their people no matter they were protestants or catholic. This can be represented on the "rivalry" between England and Spain, being Spain at those times, one of the most powerfull kingdoms under the wings of the Vatican. The religious tension was the main tension issue between those countries.

[ From just an island, to England ]

Civilizations do not just pop up suddenly. Many years had to pass so we could saw groups of people in what we know now as Great Britain. In the begging there were some hunters tribes. They stayed there even though the weather conditions that affect the island. As time went by immigrants started to arrive on the island, looking for a new horizon. As more people got into the island, the obvious mixture of cultures, beliefs and customs started to create tension among the people. As History has shown, the imposition of a culture above others has never been a peaceful process. Battles and constant fights for land and superiority framed the "civilization" process.

As we can tell, the "civilization" process is always framed by who is stronger and has the power to subjugate the rest. Furthermore I can add, that the British culture it is not original but the mixture of hungry hunters and people looking for a new place to live.

[ Expectations ]

At the beginning I thought this would be some sort of a History class, with dates and facts, but I realized it is going to be more than that. I expect that as this class goes on, all of us, and I can be able to look mat the whole picture of what happened and what is happening around us, in order to generate critical thinking and different points of view. This, as future teachers, is really important due to the fact that we are going to be responsible of opening children’s minds, and for that we must be open minded first. So I hope we can all work together, share our own experiences and enjoy this course that I really think would be interesting.
